Dr. Kirti Chopra, DDS, owns and practices at Smile Design Studio by KC in Rittenhouse Square, Center City, Philadelphia. It is a solo practice, which is a deliberate choice; she sees every patient herself, from the first exam through the final restoration. Nothing is handed off.

Training

Dr. Chopra earned her DDS from Indiana University School of Dentistry, where she was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the national dental honor society.

Most of what shapes how she practices today came after graduation. She has completed more than 900 hours of continuing dental education, is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD), and is a Kois Center Graduate with Honors, the Kois curriculum being a multi-year program in diagnosis, occlusion, and comprehensive restorative dentistry.

She is currently an Accreditation Candidate with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, having passed the written examination and now working through the clinical case submissions the credential requires.

How she practices

Dr. Chopra is drawn to the cases other people find complicated. Worn teeth, failing crowns and old dental work, bites that never felt right, esthetic concerns that have been quietly bothering someone for years, these usually have a cause underneath them, and finding that cause is the part of dentistry she enjoys most.

That shows up in the exam. Rather than cataloguing individual problems, she evaluates teeth, gums, bite, and airway together, then explains what she found and why the pieces connect before anyone discusses treatment.

It also shows up in what she recommends. Where a conservative approach can meet the goal, she prefers it, bonded composite instead of a crown, Bioclear instead of veneers, when the situation allows. Preserving healthy tooth structure keeps a patient’s future options open, and there is rarely a reason to remove more than the result requires.
